China: US’ TikTok ban shows ‘gangster thinking’

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Thursday that the TikTok ban passed by the lower chamber of the United States demonstrated Washington has “completely gangster thinking” as it represents an attempt to stop a company from making profits.

During a press briefing, Wenbin criticized that the bill passed by the House has shown how the US “stands on the contrary of fair competition principles and global trade rules,” adding that the case of the social platform “has made the world see clearly whether the US’ rules-based order is indeed globally beneficial, or whether it is exclusively serving the US’ own interests.” He reiterated that the “so-called national security” is being used as an excuse to “arbitrarily suppress outstanding companies from other countries, there will be no fairness and justice at all.”
