Wuhan’s health authorities revealed on Tuesday that they will test the whole population of the city for COVID-19 as three infections with the virus’ Delta variant were detected a day before.
Li Qiang, a city official, disclosed during a press conference that the authorities want to “ensure that everyone in the city is safe,” announcing “city-wide nucleic acid testing” aimed at detecting “asymptomatic infections.”
The Delta variant has so far been detected in more than 20 cities in China, with multiple provinces introducing lockdowns, travel curbs, and mass testings.
