Colombia calls for departure of Israeli ambassador following atrocities in Gaza

Colombian Foreign Minister Alvaro Leyva asked for the departure of Israeli Ambassador Gali Dagan from the country in response to comments from Israeli diplomacy concerning statements by Colombian President Gustavo Petro on the conflict between Israel and Hamas. These comments come against a backdrop of atrocities perpetrated in Gaza and the loss of thousands of civilian lives.

In a statement on the social network Twitter, the Colombian minister described the remarks of the Israeli ambassador as “insane rudeness”. The comments follow President Petro’s statements in which he compared Israel’s retaliation in Gaza following violent Hamas attacks to the Nazi persecution of Jews.

Diplomatic tensions between Colombia and Israel intensify in light of tragic events in the Gaza Strip
