2,250 schools are currently closed in Morocco because of the still perennial risk of contamination with the new coronavirus, according to figures obtained by AFP from the Ministry of Education.
“We are currently around 950,000 students”, whose schools are closed, of the 7 million who were to return to school in September, the ministry spokeswoman told AFP.
More than 2,000 new daily cases of infection have been identified in recent days in Morocco, for a total of 90,324 people infected, including 1,648 deaths on Wednesday evening.
Various emergency measures (strengthening of police checks, curfews, movement restrictions, etc.) have been taken in the country, in line with the extensive powers conferred on the Ministry of the Interior within the framework of state of health emergency.
Distance education has thus been imposed in all establishments located “in closed quarters or classified as epidemic centers” and for all children from infected families.
