Corruption Perception Index: Tunisia in 87th position

Transparency International published, on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, its report on the Corruption Perception Index for the year 2023. Tunisia is placed 87th with a score of 40 points out of 100.

According to the Corruption Perception Index 2023, Tunisia recorded one of its worst scores of the last decade, documented in 2015 (38/100). It repeats her score from 2014 and 2022 with 40/100.

Tunisia has therefore lost 4 points since 2020 and 2021 (44/100) while “stabilizing” at the same level which places it in 87th position in the world out of 180 countries.

Nevertheless, it arrives ahead of Morocco (97th), Algeria (104th), Egypt (108th) and Mauritania (130th), but behind countries like the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Jordan.

The 2023 CPI ranks 180 nations on a scale of 0 to 100. According to the 2023 index, more than two-thirds of countries, including Tunisia, have a rate below 50, with an overall average of 43/100. This signifies a widespread presence of corruption on a global scale.

The Corruption Perception Index is based on 13 expert reviews that determined the degree of prevalence of public sector corruption in 180 countries and territories, assigning a score between 0 (most corrupt) and 100 (the most transparent).

Denmark stands out as the least corrupt country with a score of 90/100. It is followed by Finland (87/100) and New Zealand (85/100). France achieves a score of 71/100 while the United States is at 69/100.

At the back of the pack, we discover Yemen, South Sudan and Syria (177th with a score of 13/100) while Somalia brings up the rear with a score of 11/100.
