The Czech government declared a 30-day state of emergency as a result of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Prime Minister Andrej Babis (pictured) noted that the state of emergency will take effect tomorrow and will last until December 26. “We will take further measures to limit contacts,” he added. Czechia is unlikely to impose a full lockdown but the government has been looking into banning large public gatherings and limiting the working hours of restaurants and bars.
Earlier this week, the country registered a record of nearly 26,000 daily coronavirus infections.
