The devastating earthquake that hit southeast Turkey and northwest Syria on February 6 has left at least 4,940 dead, the local authorities reported on Tuesday. Another 20,426 were injured, while an unknown number of people remain stranded in the debris as rescue teams search the ground.
“This is Turkey’s most powerful earthquake recorded since 1939,” the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said.
