The Director-General of the National Institute of Meteorology, Ahmed Hammam, welcomed a delegation from the Iraqi Meteorological and Seismological Authority, led by Dr. Salman Saddam Jassim, on February 11, 12, and 13, 2025, at the institute’s headquarters.
According to a statement from the National Institute of Meteorology, the visit was part of the implementation of recommendations from the 17th session of the Tunisian-Iraqi Joint Committee. It aimed to establish bilateral cooperation in meteorology, climate studies, and seismology.
During the visit, professionals from the National Institute of Meteorology presented several reports on various aspects of weather and seismic monitoring. Topics covered included weather forecasting, numerical modelling, database management, climate change, seismic activity monitoring, observation systems, and the Tunisian-Italian air pollution project.
On the third day, talks focused on exchanging expertise in technical and administrative areas to enhance meteorological and seismological services for both countries. The final version of a memorandum of understanding was also agreed upon.
The Minister of Transport highlighted the vital role of meteorological and seismic data in protecting lives and property, highlighting their significance in supporting national economies.
