Egypt assumes its absolute cynicism in the hell of Gaza: al-Sissi saves foreigners and dual nationals, for the rest…

Against all odds, Egypt hermetically shut down its doors despite the cataclysmic humanitarian situation in Gaza. This Wednesday, November 1, the Egyptian authorities released a little ballast just to let 90 wounded Palestinians and some 450 dual nationals and foreigners pass. They will be rescued from Israeli fury, for the others…

We learned yesterday Tuesday evening that the Rafah crossing would only permit injured people to pass through, but Egyptian and Palestinian officials at the terminal explained this Wednesday morning that nearly 545 dual nationals and foreigners would also have their tickets to leave the hell of the Gaza strip. This is most certainly the result of extremely intense diplomatic negotiations between Cairo and Western chancelleries, notably the USA and France with whom Egypt has privileged relations.

A list with the names, nationalities and passport numbers of the lucky beneficiaries was issued by the administration of the Palestinian part of the terminal. According to a Palestinian terminal official, a total of 88 injured including 40 children, women and elderly people had to pass through Rafah to be admitted to Egyptian hospitals. “The children and some elderly people will have chaperones with them,” said the manager, reports BFMTV.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in the Hamas government in Gaza, Ashraf al-Qudra, expressed his department had transmitted to Egypt a list of 4,000 injured people presenting an absolute emergency which cannot be taken charge in the Gaza Strip. “We hope that they will be able to leave in the forthcoming days because they require surgeries that cannot be performed in Gaza. We must save their lives,” he added…

For them, there is hope, perhaps, but for the hundreds of thousands of other Gazans, the only horizon is dying, between the bombs of the Israeli army, famine, diseases, etc. Let us recall that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi had taken his cynicism to the point of suggesting that Israel evacuate the populations of northern Gaza to the Negev desert. These people al-Sissi do not desire for many reasons: they are social, economic and political but there is also the spectre of the Islamist resurgence that the strong man of Egypt bloodily crushed in 2013.
