Egyptian ‘Doctor of the Poor’ Dr. Mashali dies after lifetime giving free treatment

Dr. Mohamed Mashally, who’s popularly known as ‘Doctor of the Poor,’ has passed away. He is recognised for his noble work for the people of Tanta, Egypt and the rest of the world.

Mohamed Mashally devoted his life to patients who couldn’t afford healthcare and three years ago he was honoured with the title ‘Doctor of the Poor’.

Dr. Mashali simply priced 5-10 Egyptian pounds ($0.30-0.60) per visit and regularly treated people at his three medical clinics without imposing any payment, according to the Egyptian news outlet Cairo360.
He served 12-hour days, even while he was in his late 70s, and served 30-50 patients a day, according to an interview with DW. Dr. Mashali was also known to provide vaccines free of charge to people who could not afford them.
