A barrage of eight 107mm rockets struck the headquarters of the Italian contingent of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Shama, in southern Lebanon, the Italian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.
UNIFIL reported that the rockets impacted the headquarters’ “maintenance workshop,” inflicting significant damage, but did not specify who might be behind the assault. No injuries were reported among the Italian personnel.
Italy’s Defense Minister Guido Crosetto reacted to this event by condemning it as “intolerable” that bases belonging to UNIFIL would come under such attacks.
