The Independent High Authority for Elections stated on Monday, October 7, 2024, announcing that any accusation without evidence of fraud or falsification of the electoral results will be legally examined and subject to justice. The press release comes after the official publication of the results of the 2024 presidential elections and seeks to protect the institution against rumours and untreated allegations.
Accusations without proof referred to justice
The ISIE said that anyone carrying free falsification or manipulation of results, whether by explicit or implicit declaration, will be prosecuted. These accusations will be dealt with under the laws in force. In the event of allegations, the body requests that tangible evidence be presented before any dissemination, under penalty of prosecution for the dissemination of false information and allocating illegal facts to public officials.
Transparency of electoral results
In its press release, the ISIE emphasised that it has scrupulously respected the legislation in force, in particular articles 140 and 144 of the electoral law, by guaranteeing that all of the reporting minutes are made public. These documents were displayed before the polling stations and published on the official website of the body.
The ISIE confirmed that the results of the 2024 presidential election were officially reported after verifying all the minutes of the counting offices and the collection centres. These results can also be viewed on the premises of the body to guarantee total transparency.
ISIE’s commitment to protecting the integrity of the elections
The declaration cautions against any attempt to undermine the credibility of the electoral process through unfounded accusations. The body recalls that compliance with legal procedures is fundamental to ensuring transparent and credible elections.
Anyone accusing the ISIE of undergoing fraud may be prosecuted following the laws in force.
