Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity”GNU”, Abdulhamid Dabaiba discussed with U.S Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland several issues, particularly those related to holding elections and the reconstruction of Derna, which was devastated by Hurricane “Daniel,” the GNU media office reported.
Dabaiba confirmed during the meeting his government’s support for holding elections and ending the transitional periods directly without any parallel paths, to materialize the will of the Libyan people, noting that the GNU participation in the meetings called for by the UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, came to create a fair constitutional legal basis that enables elections to be held.
Both sides furthermore examined the reconstruction file of Derna and the challenges confronting the actual launching of the project’s implementation.
UNSMIL head Bathily recently revealed a meeting of the Libyan parties to discuss the political process in the country, particularly the issue of the elections that were scheduled for December 2021, which were delayed indefinitely due to disagreements between the political parties.
