Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Wednesday that Ankara doesn’t recognize Moscow’s decision to recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics as independent.
“President Erdogan noted that Turkey does not recognize steps that contradict the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the Turkish presidency said in a statement following the two leaders’ phone conversation.
Erdogan also told Putin that “the aggravation of the situation” in Ukraine and “especially a military conflict, will not benefit anyone.”
