EU agrees to reactivate Rafah border mission

The European Union agreed in principle to reactivate its European Union Border Assistance Mission to the Rafah Crossing Point (EUBAM Rafah) which halted operations in 2007 when Hamas took fool control of the Gaza Strip, the bloc’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell told reporters on Monday following a monthly meeting of EU foreign ministers.

“This has to be done in accordance with the Palestinian Authority, the Egyptians, and obviously Israel, Israel’s authorities. We are not going to do that alone. We are not going to be the outsourcers of the security at the border. We are not a security company,” Borrell said.

The official also accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of launching false claims of antisemitism against the International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan for his own political purposes.
