EU Delegation in Tunisia launches “Lina Ben Mhenni Prize for Freedom of Expression”

The Delegation of the European Union in Tunisia announced on Friday the launch of the first edition of the “Lina Ben Mhenni Prize for Freedom of Expression”.

This prize is a tribute to one of the freest and most singular voices Tunisia has seen in recent years and to an icon of the Tunisian revolution whose birth is being commemorated on Friday May 22, according to a press release published on the website of the EU Delegation in Tunisia.

The same source refers to an initiative that “also supports a changing Tunisian media landscape”.

The competition is open to free thinkers, journalists, bloggers, influencers and other citizen activists in Lina Ben Mhenni mode for free, independent and credible information. The prize rewards the best articles defending the principles and values of democracy, freedoms and rights shared between Tunisia and the EU.

The prize will be awarded to the best opinion or investigative articles enshrining these values and rights, in particular freedom of expression and economic and social human rights.

The author of the winning article will be the candidate of the EU Delegation to the “EU Visitors Programme 2021” in Brussels and will receive an electronic tablet. The authors of two other articles will each receive an electronic tablet.

The selection will be made by a volunteer jury composed of journalists, media professionals, journalism teachers and members of civil society as well as a representative of the EU Delegation in Tunisia.

Applications must be sent by midnight on November 15, 2020 at the latest, by electronic means to the following address: DELEGATION-TUNISIA-LINA-BEN-MHENNI-PRIZE@eeas.europa.eu
