The European Council announced that it is renewing the sanctions introduced last year after Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine. The restrictions, which will remain in effect until next year target 1,386 individuals and 171 companies.
“This Decision shall apply until 24 February 2024,” the relevant document published by the Official Journal of the European Union read. The measures were implemented “in response to the illegal recognition, occupation or annexation by the Russian Federation of certain non-government controlled areas of Ukraine,” the document noted.
