Exclusive-Djerba: Tourism Minister chairs Crisis Cell

A meeting is being held by a Crisis Unit, Wednesday morning, in Djerba, under the supervision of Tourism Minister Mohamed Moez Belhassine. It is attended by various high-level officials, Tunisie Numérique local correspondent reported.

Tourist reservations have not been canceled and that the hotels are still full, the minister said.

The Interior Ministry released a statement explaining what happened, Tuesday evening, in Djerba.

The ministry underlined that an agent from the Naval Guard post in Aghir Djerba shot down his colleague and stole his ammunition.

He then sought to get into the temple of El Ghriba while opening fire sporadically at security forces stationed in the area. They prevented him from entering the vicinity of the synagogue and shot him dead.

Two visitors were killed and six police officers and four other civilians were injured in the attack.

The Interior Ministry highlighted that the Ghriba Synagogue was secured and cordoned off, adding that an investigation was launched to determine the reasons behind the terrorist attack.
