United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci stated that he expects the US to reach a turning point on the coronavirus pandemic “within a few weeks,” CNBC reported on Monday.
Speaking at a virtual event hosted by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Fauci stated that the turning point would not be “down to no infections,” but rather a “significant diminution in the number of infections per day” alongside great decreases in hospitalizations and deaths.
Fauci also reiterated the need to get as many American adults vaccinated as quickly as possible, adding that herd immunity is a “moving target” and that the duration of infection-induced immunity is still not completely known
