The fill rate of dams throughout Tunisia did not exceed 30.9% from September 1, 2022 to April 12, 2023, the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI) said in its monthly report last Wednesday.
The fill rate of the dams of Sidi Salem and Sidi El Barrak reached 17% and 60.9% respectively, the same source added.
The total stock of water in dams dropped 43.5% compared to the average of the past three years, standing at 716.7 million m3.
Tunisia’s north had the lion’s share with 91.8% of the total stock of dams. The midland and the Cap Bon had 7.3% and 0.9% of water reserves respectively.
Rainfall from September 1 to April 12, did not exceed 85.9 mm. Rainfall deficiency ranging between 43% for the northeast and 76% for central-western regions was reported, ONAGRI said.
