Fire statistics: 723 fires reported in May, no fatalities (Civil Protection)

The number of different fires recorded from May 1 to May 20, 2020 totaled 723, said spokesperson for the Civil Protection Moez Triaa,TAP reported.

The number of fires recorded in May 2019 reached 846, he added in a statement to TAP Monday.

However, this comparison remains incomplete since it does not take into account the number of days remaining in the current month, he noted.

We have to wait until the end of the current month to make a fair comparison between the months of May in 2019 and 2020.

Moez Triaa recalled that the number of different types of fires reported during the year 2019 amounted to 1652, with an average of 45 daily interventions by firefighters.

These fires affected, among others, grain and agricultural crops, buildings, means of transport etc…

The spokesperson for the Civil Protection said no fatalities were reported as a result of the fires that broke out in May.

He added that important financial losses were avoided, especially during the fire that broke out in a factory in Enfidha.

“Thus, the production and manufacturing unit and the administration premises were saved from the fires”.

He also recalled the intervention of Civil Protection agents during the fire in El Hafsia neighbourhood in Tunis who managed to quickly control the fire and prevent its spread to nearby homes, he pointed out.
