Brazilian football legend Pele died on Thursday at the age of 82, his agent said. He had been in the hospital due to complications related to cancer since November 29.
During his 21-year-long career, Pele, whose full name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, played for Santos FC and New York Cosmos and remains the only player ever to win three World Cups, the first one at the age of 17 in 1958.
He is also Brazil’s joint-top scorer with 77 goals, a record that was tied by Neymar earlier this month.
