Former Pakistan PM Khan sentenced to 10 years in jail

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been sentenced to ten years in prison as the Special Court found he violated the Official Secrets Act, Judge Abu Al-Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnainsoon announced on Tuesday.

Khan was accused and charged with leaking state secrets by revealing he had evidence the United States planned to remove him as prime minister while he was still serving with the help of other Pakistani political entities due to his refusal to take an official stand against Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. The information was reportedly hidden in a cypher, or a diplomatic cable, after which the scandal got its name.
