France: Darmanin calls for the withdrawal of residence permit of Tunisian imam for anti-French preaching

French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, asked for the withdrawal of the residence permit of Mahjoub Mahjoubi, the imam of Bagnols-sur-Céze after his controversial preachings were reported by Jérôme Bonet, prefect of Gard.

The remarks of the imam, who described the French flag as a “satanic flag” in a video posted on social networks, provoked the concern of the authorities.

Two reports were made under article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the first concerning financial violations linked to the management of the mosque in December 2023, and the second due to his recent preaching.

The imam is likewise a member of the Association of Muslims of Gard Rhone (AMGR).
