France-Double assault in Cholet: two dead, one person injured

In Cholet, in Maine-et-Loire, two people were killed on Saturday during an assault in the middle of the street. The alleged perpetrator was arrested by police at his home. One of the two victims is an elderly man who died after being beaten by his attacker. The first elements of the investigation do not indicate a terrorist character to this attack,Europe 1 reports.

The alleged perpetrator is 35 years old. He is known to the police for common law offenses. According to preliminary findings, the man came down from his apartment and passed a first person in his hall. He allegedly attacked her violently, inflicting severe blows on her head: the first victim succumbs to her injuries.

The man is then said to have left his building, and went to a park, attacking an elderly couple: the man, aged 83, died of his injuries during his transfer by helicopter to the hospital. His 81-year-old wife suffers serious injuries but her life is no longer in danger. He then returned home, to his apartment, where he was arrested by law enforcement. His motivations are still unknown.
