France: Europe must take destiny into its own hands

The European Union must “take our destiny into our own hands” in light of Donald Trump’s likely reelection in the United States, French government spokesperson Maud Bregeon told RTL on Wednesday. She said there are several fields in which the EU can assert its independence from “major third powers,” including defense, reindustrialization and decarbonization.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron (pictured) congratulated Trump ahead of the official results, saying he is “ready to work together” as they did during their first term in office. “With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity,” he added.
