France has begun evacuating its citizens and other Europeans from Niger.
The first of three planned evacuation flights lifted off from the Nigerien capital Niamey on Tuesday evening, according to French foreign minister, Catherine Colonna.
“There are 262 people on board the plane, an Airbus A330, including a dozen babies,” she told AFP, adding that most of the passengers were French but there were “some European nationals”.
