France to ban female students from wearing abayas in state schools

French Minister of National Education, Gabriel Attal, revealed the ban of abayas in schools. This attire will no longer be permitted in schools, the minister said.

Gabriel Attal voiced his desire to put in place “clear rules at the national level” concerning the wearing of abayas at school.

The Minister underlined the significance of secularism at school, declaring that it represents “a freedom to emancipate oneself through school”. He also insisted that the school should be a secular sanctuary, where students’ religion should not be visually identifiable.
