The escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas is raising grave concerns about access to food in affected areas, especially in the Gaza Strip, according to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).
In a press release issued from Rome, the WFP voices its deep concern about the rapid deterioration of the situation in Israel and the State of Palestine, as well as the devastating effect of the conflict on local populations.
The WFP reports that food distribution networks are disrupted and that food production itself is seriously impacted by the consequences of the conflict. This precarious situation only exacerbates the suffering of the already vulnerable populations of Gaza and other areas affected by the fighting.
The UN and its humanitarian agencies are calling for unconditional humanitarian access to provide life-saving food aid to those impacted by the conflict, as well as an immediate ceasefire to end the violence and allow safe distribution of essential humanitarian aid.
