At least 25 were wounded and one died in a blast in an apartment block in the eastern German city of Blankenburg on Friday, police announced, adding that the reason of the explosion has yet to be determined.
Residents were being removed from the block, spokesman Uwe Becker said.
A photo tweeted by police revealed a five-story communist-era residential block with smoke emanating from blackened windows on the second floor.
