Gigantic aquarium bursts onto Berlin streets

The world’s largest free-standing aquarium burst onto the streets of Berlin on Friday initiating around 100 emergency workers to assist with the havoc. According to local authorities, the AquaDom aquarium located inside the Radisson Collection Hotel, first created panic when a very loud sound was heard during the morning.

Two people were wounded from the glass that broke out and the facade of the hotel washed onto the street along with other debris, while about 350 were evacuated from the hotel complex. “Search completed – no people found. The building is badly damaged. Building statics are currently being checked,” the Berlin fire department said in a Twitter post.

The one million litres of water were contained in a 16-meter-high structure with a diameter of about 11 meters and home to 1,500 fish of 50 species.
