Global COVID-19 death toll reaches 5 million

The worldwide COVID-19 death toll surpassed five million on Monday, according to data from Worldometer. The figure represents 2% of the total number of infections from the start of the pandemic, which stands at just under 250 million.

The United States tops the global list with 745,836 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. It is followed by Brazil at 607,860 and India at 458,470.
