GNU PM Dabaiba awards Wael Al-Dahdouh Red Saraya Award for Peace Journalism

During the celebration of the 72nd anniversary of Libya’s Independence Day, GNU Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba honoured Al-Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza, Wael Al-Dahdouh, with the Red Brigades Award for Peace Journalism. This tribute is in appreciation of Al-Dahdouh’s devoted coverage of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip for over two and a half months.

Journalist Khadija Ben Qena accepted the award on behalf of Al-Dahdouh, her coworker at the channel. Al-Dahdouh entrusted her with this responsibility due to his incapacity to attend the ceremony in Libya.

In his speech, Wael Al-Dahdouh voiced gratitude for the acknowledgement, describing it as a commendable gesture. He paid tribute to his colleague Samer Abu Daqqa, who lost his life alongside him on an official mission. Al-Dahdouh also devoted the award to his family, who fell victim to a reckless and aggressive Israeli bombing. Further, he extended his tribute to all the martyred colleagues from the Palestinian press family.

Stressing the toll on journalists during the Israeli aggression, Al-Dahdouh highlighted that approximately 100 journalists lost their lives, characterizing this number as “terrifying and exceptionally high” compared to casualties in previous conflicts worldwide.
