Government meeting chaired by Kais Saïed: Accelerating reforms and eradicating corruption.

During this session, the head of state made an urgent appeal to his ministers, urging them to double their efforts to meet the expectations of the Tunisian people and to accelerate the required reforms for the country’s future.

Ending Tailored Legislation

At the heart of this meeting, President Saïed stressed the significance of legislating quickly and effectively. He underscored the need to review and simplify existing laws, especially those designed for special interests or to hinder reforms. He specified that the timelines for adopting these new laws should be shortened and that the administration must act as a facilitator rather than creating administrative obstacles.

Strict Measures Against Corruption

Another strong focus of this meeting was the fight against corruption. Kais Saïed reiterated his commitment to dismantling all “corruption networks” and cleaning the Tunisian administration of those who believe they are above the law.

“No act of negligence or failure to fulfil obligations will be tolerated,” cautioned the President, calling for zero tolerance against these practices.

Meeting the People’s Expectations

In his speech, Saïed reminded that Tunisia has entered a new phase in its history, with high expectations from citizens. He emphasised that “no one has an excuse” not to meet the legitimate aspirations of Tunisians for a dignified life, calling for concrete actions that will have a rapid and positive impact.

The President furthermore emphasized the importance of facilitating the lives of young people by offering them tangible opportunities, considering them to be the future of the country.

Optimizing the Functioning of Public Institutions

Kais Saïed also addressed the issue of public enterprises, remarking that they must be protected, reformed, and purged of corruption. He reiterated the crucial social role that the state must continue to play, particularly in the fields of health and education, in cooperation with the private sector.

Therefore, President Saïed stressed the need to “break with the past” and reinvent new working methods that allow Tunisia to move towards a more prosperous era, benefiting all its citizens.
