Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede criticized US President Donald Trump on Wednesday for his recent comments about the island and his desire to turn it into a union state.
“We do not want to be Americans or Danes. We are Greenlanders. The Americans and their leader must understand this,” the leader wrote on his Facebook account, responding to Trump’s recent comments during his address to the nation.
“We are not for sale and cannot be taken. Our future is determined by us in Greenland,” he added. The statement comes just days before Greenland’s legislative elections, where the question of independence is a central issue.
