Climate activist Greta Thunberg multiplied down on her critique that world and business leaders aren’t taking the peril of global warming severely.
She told a panel of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland: “Planting trees is good of course but it’s nowhere near enough.”
“Pretty much nothing has been done since the global emissions of CO2 have not reduced,” Thunberg said. “f you see it from that aspect, what has concretely been done, if you see it from a bigger perspective, basically nothing … it will require much more than this, this is just the very beginning.”Thunberg accused leaders of “cheating and fiddling around with numbers” by talking about cutting emissions to ‘net zero’ — emitting no more carbon than is absorbed by the planet or technical means — by 2050.
“I don’t think I have seen one media outlet or person in power communicating this or what it means,” Thunberg said. “I know you don’t want to report on this. I know you don’t want to talk about this. But I assure you I will continue to repeat these numbers until you do.”
“My generation will not give up without a fight,” she stated.
