United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed on Monday that he is concerned the world might be heading toward a “wider war” over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Guterres underlined that “the Doomsday Clock is now 90 seconds to midnight or total global catastrophe,” adding that this is the closest “the clock has ever stood to humanity’s darkest hour, closer than even during the height of the Cold War.”
The UN chief reiterated yet again that nuclear powers should refrain from using nuclear weapons as the world remains “at the greatest risk in decades of a nuclear war, either accidentally or deliberately.”
