Hughes Fire Burns Over 9,000 Acres in Northern Los Angeles, Forcing Mass Evacuations

The Hughes Fire erupted Wednesday near Castaic, northwest of Los Angeles, rapidly spreading to over 9,000 acres within hours. Evacuation orders have displaced tens of thousands, with nearby areas on high alert.

First reported at 50 acres around 10:53 a.m., the fire grew quickly due to red flag conditions and remains 0% contained, according to CalFire. It has since expanded into Ventura County as firefighters work to control the blaze.

This wildfire follows the recent Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, which caused significant damage and claimed 28 lives earlier this month. Both are now largely contained.
