The International Court of Justice (ICJ) started two days of hearings on Monday in a case brought by Nicaragua seeking to ban Germany from supplying Israel with weapons. A lawyer for Nicaragua argued Germany uses the “pathetic excuse” of providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza while also selling Israel “military equipment that is used to kill and annihilate them.”
Nicaragua also said Germany is “facilitating the commission of genocide and, in any case has failed in its obligation to do everything possible to prevent the commission of genocide” and asked the ICJ to issue a preliminary order stopping all German aid to Israel. Germany denied the accusations, claiming it has not breached international law and promising to defend its position before the court.
