India: Heatwave kills at least 33 people

At least 33 individuals, including election officials on duty, died of suspected heatstroke in India’s states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha on Friday. The heatwave in the region is anticipated to continue until Saturday, authorities said.

India has been experiencing an exceptionally hot summer, with parts of the capital, Delhi, recording the country’s highest-ever temperature at 52.9 degrees Celsius (127.22°F) this week. Nevertheless, the weather department is currently verifying the accuracy of the sensors at the weather station that reported this reading.
