A major economic inspection operation was carried out in Tunis, resulting in the demolition of 25 informal sales points, 8 seizures of illegally stored or unauthorized goods, and the recording of 5 health offences related to the illegal occupation of public spaces. This action was announced by the Tunis Governorate on its official page.
Fighting the Anarchic Occupation of Public Spaces
This campaign is part of a strategy to eliminate the illegal occupation of public spaces and fight abusive commercial practices. The Governor of Tunis, Imad Boukhreis, underscored the significance of strengthening inspection campaigns and guaranteeing the daily monitoring of markets to put an end to monopolistic practices and illegal speculation.
Intervention in Sensitive Areas
The operation was coordinated by the city delegate in collaboration with security forces and the municipal police. The interventions targeted particularly sensitive areas, such as Victory Square and other commercial zones where anarchic occupation of public spaces is a recurring issue. Abandoned spaces that had been illegally transformed into informal sales points were likewise demolished.
Seizures and Violations Recorded
Beyond the demolitions, authorities carried out 8 seizures of illegally stored or unauthorized goods. Additionally, 5 health violations were registered, related to the failure to comply with hygiene rules and the illegal occupation of public spaces.
Ongoing Efforts to Restore Order
This initiative demonstrates the determination of Tunisian authorities to combat the informal trade sector and regulate the use of public spaces. The Governor of Tunis reaffirmed the importance of ongoing mobilization to ensure order and safety in markets while protecting citizens from illegal commercial practices.
