The Gaza government information office on Saturday condemned Israel’s prohibition on bringing sheep into the Gaza Strip, stating the move deprives hundreds of thousands of families of the chance to celebrate Eid al-Adha in respecting Islamic religious rites.
The office stated that “the occupation’s ban on bringing sheep into Gaza exposes the criminal face of the occupation and the US administration, supporting genocide and depriving the Palestinian people of celebrating Eid al-Adha”.
The Israeli occupation closed all crossing points into Gaza, including the Rafah border crossing and the Kerem Salem crossing, coinciding with the approach of Eid al-Adha. This ban is seen as yet another grave violation of fundamental Islamic and humanitarian values as well as human rights. The office emphasised that “moral and legal responsibility requires the international community to seriously intervene to stop this genocide and blatant violation of Muslim and human rights.”
The Gaza government holds Israel and the US administration fully accountable for “the continuation of these crimes against Islam and the Palestinian people, whether it be genocide or banning the introduction of sheep, thus depriving Muslims from celebrating Eid al-Adha”.
They called on the international community, the United Nations and international organizations to place pressure on Israel and the US administration to stop this genocide, open the crossings and reverse this inhumane decision while intensifying efforts to lift the blockade of Gaza and provide emergency aid.
Since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza, Israel has closed the area’s crossings and banned the entry of goods, permitting only very small amounts of humanitarian aid last November, through the Rafah land border crossing. with Egypt, before taking control of the Palestinian side on May 7.
