The International Criminal Court’s prosecutor, Karim Khan, urged judges to quickly decide on arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant as well as the leaders of Hamas.
Khan emphasized that the ICC has the authority to investigate Israeli nationals for alleged war crimes in the Palestinian territories, according to his court filing cited by Reuters. He also dismissed legal challenges from various governments and other parties, arguing that the court’s jurisdiction is well-established.
Khan expressed concern that any delay in the proceedings would harm the rights of victims, adding that the ICC believes there are reasonable grounds to hold both Israeli and Hamas leaders accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
