Tunisia-Lawyer Haykel Ben Mahfoudh elected judge at International Criminal Court

Tunisian jurist and professor of public international law, Haykel Ben Mahfoudh, have been elected as a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the 2024-2033 term. The election took place during the 22nd session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, where Tunisia has been a member since 2011. This makes Dr. Haykel Ben Mahfoudh the first Tunisian and Arab judge to be elected to the ICC since its establishment in 2002. Professor Ben Mahfoudh secured the highest number of votes, with 86 in total, among the elected judges. He has extensive academic experience and has contributed significantly to the fields of security, armed conflicts, and human rights through publications and research articles.
