Italy’s Council of Ministers decided on Thursday to schedule the country’s snap parliamentary election for September 25.
The move comes after Prime Minister Mario Draghi resigned and President Sergio Mattarella dissolved parliament, calling for a new election.
“We must be very proud of the work we have done, in the wake of the mandate of the President of the Republic, at the service of all citizens. Italy has everything to be strong, authoritative, and credible in the world. You have demonstrated day after day in these months of government,” Draghi stated during the Council of Ministers.
