A 5.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the ocean waters along the shoreline of Japan, according to data provided by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The termor struck at a depth of 29.9 kilometres and its epicentre was some 111 kilometres south of the Japanese city of Honocho.
