Japan-Suga declares state of emergency in Tokyo

Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced on Thursday the second state of emergency in the Tokyo area due to a surge in coronavirus cases.

Under the new laws, restaurants will be required to close at 8:00 pm, while businesses, in general, will be urged to have employees work from home or reduce the number of people in offices by 70%.

The announcement comes after Tokyo reported 2,447 new COVID-19 infections, a 50% jump compared to yesterday’s figure
