The Criminal Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance decided on Monday, March 24, 2025, to delay the trial of Abir Moussi, president of the Free Destourian Party (PDL), to the next session on April 24.
This decision follows a case filed by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) in response to public statements made by Moussi during a press conference in December 2022.
During Monday’s hearing, Moussi firmly rejected the appointment of any lawyer to represent her, whether from the regional bar or her own defense team.
As a result, the public prosecutor requested a postponement to permit the appointment of a lawyer for the defence. The court granted the request, scheduling the next hearing for April 24, 2025.
Notably, Abir Moussi’s lawyers were present in court, wearing red armbands in protest. Nevertheless, they respected their client’s wishes by refraining from pleading on her behalf.
