Kais Saied reiterates Tunisia’s position on migration and calls for neutrality of administration

During his meeting on  Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Carthage Palace with Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani, the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, examined the results of Tunisia’s participation in the Forum on Migration in the Mediterranean, held in Tripoli the day before.

Kais Saied reaffirmed Tunisia’s firm position on the issue of irregular migration. The President highlighted that Tunisia, proud of its African roots, has provided all possible aid to migrants who are victims of human trafficking networks.

Nevertheless, he insisted that Tunisia cannot agree to become a transit or settlement point for these migrants. According to Kais Saied, the solution to this issue can only be collective, involving the dismantling of the criminal networks responsible for this abnormal phenomenon. He also noted that these migrants are victims of an unjust global economic system.

Furthermore, President Kais Saied reiterated the significance of the neutrality of the Tunisian administration. He emphasised that each official must refrain from any political consideration and respect the duties of neutrality and reserve. He condemned the failings observed in certain administrations and insisted on the necessity of applying appropriate legal sanctions in the event of failure or negligence within state institutions.

This statement underscores the challenges Tunisia faces in terms of migration and administrative management, and reflects President Saied’s commitment to addressing these issues with firmness and determination.
