On January 8, 2025, President Kaïs Saïed met with Samir Abdelhafidh, Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, at the Carthage Palace. During the meeting, Saïed stressed the significance of building Tunisia’s economy on national priorities shaped by popular will, while promoting self-reliance and fostering international cooperation that respects Tunisia’s interests.
The President underscored the role of local and regional councils in drafting the 2026-2030 economic and social plan. These councils will identify development priorities to address public aspirations, especially in social justice, sustainable economic growth, and territorial integration.
Saïed criticized tailored economic regulations that profit narrow interests at the expense of fairness. He ordered a review of these practices to ensure equal opportunities, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The President called for the immediate revival of halted projects, asserting that sufficient funds are available. He suggested that many delays are intentional and urged accountability for those responsible.
These initiatives reflect Saïed’s vision for an economy rooted in Tunisia’s priorities, promoting self-sufficiency and decreasing harmful external dependencies. The reforms aim to establish a balanced development framework founded on equity and social justice.
